give to Haiti, get free cookies, honor Dr. MLK

If you donate any amount to the charity “Partners in Health” through Carolyn's Web page for Haitian earthquake relief, she will send you some free home-made vegan cookies.

On January 13, people started to arrive at Port-au-Prince “outlying hospitals and clinics run by Partners in Health.”

Dr. Paul Farmer, who co-founded the organization, was chronicled in “Mountains beyond Mountains,” written by Tracy Kidder, who lives where I've been exiled to. Dr. Farmer is also the UN deputy special envoy to Haiti.

So, his organization's a pretty good one to send your money to, though I also recommend UMCOR, though they're not offering free cookies to anyone.

If you don't care about vegan cookies, you can donate to Partners in Health directly through their SSL-secured Web site.

last night's dreams

My first dream: I was re-marrying Monstro, at a cut-rate resort, and my wedding dress didn't fit. After rushing around all over the property, I finally decided to wear a long skirt and top, because Monstro wasn't even wearing a tie, so why should I get all glammed up.

My second dream: I went to an audition but didn't have a monologue prepared. The audition was being held at a library so I was rushing around, looking for something I could perform. This dream is the acting equivalent of showing up unprepared for your final exam, in your underwear.

back from a run

Makes three days since Monday I've gone running — pretty decent, considering I was on an airplane all day Tuesday and they really don't appreciate wind sprints down the aisle, and Wednesday was six hours of aerobic housecleaning, moving furniture and all that. Today's run included special appearances at the bank and the haircut store and Cathy Cross. By the time I started home I really had to book — it was 4:00, which in New England in January means the sunset is imminent. The freezing-cold headwind didn't help up the hill but it ultimately made my feet move faster, the quicker to be out of it. Then the last quarter mile featured Billy Idol's “Rebel Yell” so I was home before I knew it. Time for my homemade recovery drink of chocolate milk with half a scoop of protein powder — if you make a slurry of syrup and powder, then add the milk, you get these yummy chocolate/protein pearls at the bottom of your glass. Yum-my.

Home again, home again

I'm glad I was prepared for the freezing cold Arctic Blast of San Antonio because I don't think it got above 40 degrees the whole time we were there, except for the day we came home. Balls. Had a lovely vacation of avoiding computers and doing not much of anything. Back at my desk today, refreshed and revitalized and ready for pretty much anything that pays decent. You know, the usual.

good morning

Darn cat woke me up at 4-something and between her incessant cuteness and BK coughing in the next room, no more sleep for Ms. Motormouth. Oh well. Now I'll be attacking my to-do list and ignoring the I-want-food cat.
