Intimidated?

Sheesh, people… so I post one thing that shows I have serious thoughts in my head (“Infinite Jest-ing”), and nobody's commented since. So you can go ahead and comment on this one by congratulating me on MY 200TH POST! Woo hoo!

  1. See, you and your husband read too many “difficult” books. Might I recommend, for example, a nice Christopher Moore book? I thought “You Suck” was pretty good, and only took about 4 hours to read. Or how about “Wicked”? Maguire's a fine writer, in fact. I mean … something to clear the literary palate between these massive undertakings.
Honestly, I have GR on deck, but after AtD, I'm almost afraid to read any more Pynchon — I know, that's like sacrilege in your household, but DAMN… I feel like you need an always-on connection to the internet and a full-time support group to make it through any one chapter — and, even then, I'm not sure any of us “Chumps of Choice” know what the hell's really going on.

  2. If it makes you feel any better, I've read more than one Maguire book and enjoyed 'em. I'm also reading the occasional book besides Wallace and Pynchon and Joyce (oh my). I enjoyed _Pilgrim_ and also just finished Ann Patchett's _Truth and Beauty_, which I loved but was way too close to what I was trying to accomplish with my Master's thesis, so ich bin eifersuechtig. And I've also read the same 20 pages of GR three times now because I keep forgetting what's happened therein.

  3. …although everyone who was in 201c with me will understand my brief, underlying ick-factor associated with his name, and a Mormon girl who did her first report on him…
I'm not saying more unless you specifically ask me to.
